The Basics

Objective: Defeat your opponent by either knocking out their Pokémon or by forcing them to run out of cards.

Winning: You win by collecting all your Prize cards (six in a standard game), or if your opponent cannot draw a card at the beginning of their turn.

Deck Construction

Deck Size: 60 cards.

Deck Composition:

Pokémon cards: Your creatures that battle.

Energy cards: Provide the power needed to use attacks.

Trainer cards: Provide various effects and benefits.

Card Types

Pokémon Cards: Basic Pokémon, Stage 1 (evolve from Basic), and Stage 2 (evolve from Stage 1).

Energy Cards: Basic Energy and Special Energy.

Trainer Cards: Items, Supporters, and Stadiums.
Setup

Determine First Player: Flip a coin or use another random method. The first player cannot attack or use a supporter card on their first turn.

Draw Starting Hand: Shuffle your deck and draw 7 cards.

Check for Basic Pokémon:

If none, reveal your hand, shuffle it back, and draw 7 new cards (Mulligan). Opponent may draw a card for each Mulligan.

Repeat until you have at least one Basic Pokémon.

Set Up Active and Bench Pokémon:

Place one Basic Pokémon face down as your Active Pokémon.

Place up to 5 more Basic Pokémon face down on your Bench.

Set Prize Cards: Draw the top 6 cards from your deck and set them aside face down.

Reveal Pokémon: Simultaneously flip all Active and Benched Pokémon face up. The game begins!
